Trash or treasure?

It depends on who you are asking! As Professor Lisa Maher of UC Berkeley once said "humans have been creating and leaving behind a lot of garbage, for a very long time." With that garbage, ahem, artifacts, there is much to learn about humans and their impacts on their environments.
